EXCO 190 - Community Based Archiving & L.I.S 2 credits This class is a combination of traditional archival experience and community based learning opportunities centered around Library & Information Science. In this class you will be learning the basics of archival science through first hand experience processing records of Oberlin’s minority students groups as part of an MRC project. You will learn archival skills relating to preservation, metadata collection, processing, and more. Additionally, you will be engaging with community partners like the Public Library, Kendal, First Church, and more. Your engagement in the community will help you better understand why community engagement is so critical in the practice of Archiving and Library & Information Science. Engagement will include community lectures/meet and greets, short field trips (walkable), and oral history interviews.
