EXCO 340 - Speculative Worldbuilding ExCo

Whether you’re a writer looking to spice up your stories with realistic cultures, a biology enthusiast wondering “what if the normal number of eyes was five?”, or a geology admirer thinking about simulating geologic time on a non-Earth planet, this course has something for you. We’ll be covering planet building, speculative evolution, speculative culture, and constructed languages. All of these come together to form the sci-fi, fantasy, and speculative stories you know and love. Students will be lead through the creation of a world and its creatures, what the creatures create themselves, and finally a language that some of those creatures might speak. Everyone will have a detailed worldbuilding project by the end to call their own!
