EXCO 431 - Reading Kafka’s “The Trial”

1 credit
This course delves into the intriguing world of Franz Kafka’s seminal work, “The Trial.” We will explore the enigmatic and surreal narrative that follows Josef K. as he navigates a labyrinthine and absurd legal system. Through close readings and thoughtful discussions, participants will unravel the existential themes, complex symbolism, and the author’s distinctive writing style that have made “The Trial” a classic of 20th-century literature. This course not only invites us to grapple with the text’s profound questions about guilt, suffering and the human condition but also encourages critical thinking and creative interpretation to uncover the layers of meaning hidden within Kafka’s intricate narrative.
