1 credit Many aspiring writers are daunted by the prospect of writing a novel, or any other type of long-form fiction. It can seem like a herculean effort, one that is out of reach of people at the beginning of their creative writing journey. The goal of this class is to empower students to complete their own long-form fiction projects. This is accomplished by first introducing them to tried and true storytelling tools as they develop their own projects, and then by providing support and community while students start writing their projects in the third month of the course. By the end of this course, students will have an understanding of how to construct a well-written novel, as well as experience applying their new knowledge to their own projects. They will also have experience working in a community of writers, exchanging ideas as they develop their stories, and supporting each other through the writing process.
