EXCO 450 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars Co

1 credit
The Clone Wars began as a one-off line by Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars in 1977. 31 years later, George Lucas gave us the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and audiences everywhere finally could see what the Clone Wars were. In-Universe, the Clone War was the most complicated and deadly war in the Star Wars Universe. It takes place from 22BBY-19BBY or in-between Star Wars Episode II and Episode III, and it marks the transition from the Galactic Republic to the First Galactic Empire and the end of the Jedi Order. This course seeks to provide a broad overview of the fictional history of the Clone Wars from an in-universe perspective while also deepening the knowledge of existing Star Wars fans and providing an excellent introduction to new fans of the franchise. We will examine the complicated origins of the Clone Wars, beginning 10 years before it starts through the very beginnings of the Galactic Empire. We will mainly examine the growing corruption of the Senate and how Palpatine was so easily able to take control and commit mass genocide against the Jedi Order with public approval and the war’s social and economic effects. Students will be able to leave having great knowledge of the conflict and a greater appreciation of the storytelling within the Star Wars Universe, with the goal of spreading an overall love for Star Wars. Each week we will have a slideshow lecture with discussions about the episodes we watched that week.
