EXCO 543 - TapCo

Tap dancing is an all-inclusive, fulfilling, challenging art form which connects a dancer to music like no other dance style does! This 1-credit course is open to brand new beginners, experienced tappers, and everyone in between. Dancers will be exposed to the technique and history of different tap styles and build up an impressive vocabulary of tap steps, culminating with a group performance in the Student Dance Showcase. We will focus on building confidence, taking up space in noise, improving musicality, developing upper body flow, and picking up choreography. The course will weave in the crucial history of tap in film, theater, and the dance community throughout the semester. A typical class will consist of warm ups, rhythmic exercises and games, learning new steps, improvisation, and reviewing and learning choreography for the final piece. Tap shoes can be provided!
