EXCO 544 - Irish DanceCo

Have you ever listened to Irish music and thought of those Irish dancers who kick their legs and shuffle their feet? This class is a beginners introduction to Irish dancing, exploring how to comfortably move to the music and understand the basic movements required for a group dance. The goal of this class is to guide beginners into the choreography and basics of Irish dancing and to have fun along the way. I will teach solo reels, jigs, and hornpipes as well as group choreography, some of which go to the same tunes as the solo steps. Half way through the course we will have a St. Patrick’s Day performance class as the midterm. The class will finish with a “ceili” (A social gathering, consisting of dance performances) with live music to be coordinated with a fiddle group.
