EXCO 763 - Beginner Pottery ExCo

1 credit
Have you ever wanted to learn pottery? This is the class for you! In this class you will learn all the basics of wheel thrown pottery and will have multiple pieces of pottery to take home at the end of the semester. This class will require you to work on your pieces outside of class time each week. In the beginning we will heavily focus on the foundational parts of throwing. This includes wedging, centering, making a center hole, pulling the floor, and pulling the wall. Once we can make a basic cylinder shape, we can dive into other forms such as bowls, cups, and vases. You will also learn some hand building techniques that you can use to spice up your thrown pieces such as pulling a handle, carving, slab rolling, etc. Additionally, you will learn to glaze-a very important part of making pottery. Finally, you will learn how to use the pottery Co-op. As a member, you will need to help out around the Co-op space. This involves knowing how to recycle clay, proper cleaning etiquette, kiln firing, etc.
