POLT 263 - Comparative Political Economy of Race and Gender
FCSSCICDWINT4 credits Leading accounts in comparative political economy have typically focused on class - on how developments in capitalism shape class inequalities and how, in turn, class cleavages structure democratic politics. What is the role of race and gender in these processes? How do welfare states distribute resources and opportunities along these and other dimensions of social difference? What are the consequences for racial and gender inequality and its politics in Europe and the US? This course takes a critical look at comparative political economy by introducing race, gender, and other forms of social difference to the place where capitalism and democracy meet. Recommended preparation: POLT 112.
