BIOL 318 - EvolutionFC NSMA QFR 4 credits Evolution is the foundational process that has shaped all biological phenomena, from the ecological interactions of species to the structure and function of biomolecules. In this course, we will discuss a variety of topics related to the mechanisms of evolution, the processes of diversification and speciation, the measurement of evolutionary distance, and the major transitions in evolutionary history. Students will also learn how concepts from evolutionary biology apply to a range of other disciplines, including conservation, medicine, public health, bioengineering, and bioinformatics.
Prerequisites: BIOL 200 or BIOL 210/211.
