FC SSCICD4 credits Why do people migrate across international borders? What barriers and supports do immigrants and their children encounter as they integrate into the societies that receive them? How does migration impact sending countries, receiving countries, and migrants themselves? This course includes a critical analysis of the main theories of migration, transnationalism, and assimilation. These allow us to explore key contemporary issues, including gender and migration, belonging and citizenship, the construction and shifting of borders, immigrant communities and ethnic enclaves, forced migration, and the growing prevalence of anti-immigrant sentiment, racism, and Islamophobia.
