AAST 138 - From Slavery to Freedom: African American History From 1619-1865
FCSSCICD4 credits This course examines the history of African Americans from their arrival as enslaved people in the United States until the end of the Civil War. Students will interrogate the tensions between conceptualizations of freedom and the realities of bondage present at the core of the American story. They will also chart the cultural, social and political development of African American life from the seventeenth century through nineteenth centuries.
