CRWR 236 - Writing Childhood in FictionFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits This course will examine works of fiction that center child characters as protagonists. From a close reading of fiction across time periods and cultures, from Dickens to Adichie, we will consider the following questions: What does childhood mean and how is childhood constructed in fiction? Are there identifiable conventions in the writing of coming-of-age stories? How does the bildungsroman vary across cultures, and what insights can futuristic fiction offer in thinking about the future of childhood in a changing world?
