AAST 346 - Contemporary African American Literature

This course is a survey of African American Literature from 1937 to the present and some of the major critical discourses and theories that have guided the development of the literature over the past century. This course is designed for students with some background in the field. Authors discussed include James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison, Sonia Sanchez, Octavia Butler, and Kiese Laymon.
