THEA 307 - Directing II: Craft meets Collaboration: Tools and Tactics for Emerging DirectorsFC ARHU PRAX 4 credits This intermediate directing course advances collaborative practice between directors and actors through rigorous dramaturgical analysis, embodied exploration, and focused scene work. Students direct multiple scenes in partnership with the Acting Ensemble, strengthening their ability to transform textual insight into purposeful theatrical action. Drawing on Katie Mitchell’s dramaturgical processes, Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints, and Stanislavsky’s Active Analysis, the course integrates analytical precision with rehearsal-based experimentation. Emphasis is placed on the director as a generative artistic leader who fosters disciplined preparation and creative discovery. Through rehearsal, reflection, and feedback, students cultivate a distinct artistic voice grounded in craft and collaboration.
