BIOL 301 - Developmental Biology Lecture

FC NSMA QFR
4 credits
This course explores the molecular/cellular biology and genetic basis of animal embryonic development. Fundamental themes of animal development will be discussed by studying foundational discoveries in experimental embryology, developmental genetics, and molecular biology research. Animal models used to pioneer developmental biology research, including Drosophila (fruit fly), C. elegans (nematode), Xenopus (frog), zebrafish, chick, and mice, will be studied in lecture. Students will analyze and interpret data from primary literature investigating various topics in developmental biology.

Prerequisites: BIOL 213 or BIOL 223/224.
