EVSS 101 - Environment and SocietyFC SSCI 4 credits An interdisciplinary exploration of environmental challenges, causes, solutions, and underlying power dynamics. This course provides an introduction to social, economic, and ecological perspectives on relationships between humans and the rest of the world. The course asks fundamental questions about how “nature” and “the environment” are understood, about what counts as an environmental problem and why, and about the scope and aims of environmental studies itself. This course provides an introduction for non-majors and a foundation for Environmental Studies majors. First- and second-year students have priority through the first week of registration; seats will open to juniors, seniors, and fifth-year students during the second week of registration through a system-maintained waitlist process. Field trip(s) required.
Community-Based Learning Sustainability This course is appropriate for new students.
