An upper-level exploration of analytical chemistry, with a focus on the quantitative analysis or characterization of particularly challenging samples (i.e. those with low sample volume, low concentration, and/or high complexity). Topics include sample preparation, modern analytical instrumentation, and data analysis approaches. Class meetings use current research literature as the basis for discussion, while the laboratory expands student experience with instrumentation and quantitative analysis beyond the foundations of CHEM 211.

Prerequisites: CHEM 211.
