NSCI 337 - Neurotoxicology and NeurodegenerationFC NSMA 4 credits This course examines the pathophysiological link between (a) neurotoxicology, the adverse effects of chemicals, metals, and injurious agents on the nervous system, and (b) neurodegeneration, the progressive neuronal loss observed in many diseases due to aberrant cellular pathways. Topics include neurotoxicology of the nervous system, biochemical, molecular, developmental, behavioral, and cognitive neurotoxicology, and the synergistic effects of genes and environment in neurodegenerative and other neurological disorders. In addition to the assigned readings, students will read, present, and discuss findings from the scientific literature. This course is reserved for students in their second year and above.
