POLT 227 - Queering International Development

This course surveys contemporary LGBTQIA+ experience in different countries using the tools of international relations. What policies and strategies do international organizations, NGOs, and governments use to support queer people? How are gender and sexuality defined differently in different contexts? How are they (de)politicized? We will carefully consider the ethics of global advocacy around queer issues, and discover what queer theoretical perspectives can offer to international development programs.
