WRCM 303 - Writing about Travel

FC ARHU WADV
4 credits
This course is designed for students who have just returned from significant travel away from home, as in study away. In it, students will read extensively in the field and explore ways to make sense of their journeys in writing. It will also consider the problematic history of travel writing, with its roots in the colonialism and its tendency to create exotic others.  In recent years, travel writing has been in a kind of crisis that has led to the creation of new forms, the inclusion of new voices, and the expansion of conceptions of travel. This course is not intended for creative writing students but invites those who may not have written creative-non-fiction or experimental writing in the past. This course is reserved for second year students and above.
