FYSP 015 - Against Technology?

FC ARHU WINT
4 credits
Is technology a tool, a trap, or something in between? And what might it mean to be “against” it, anyway? Reading across critical theory, anthropology, media studies, and geography, this course traces debates around technology from the ancient world to AI. Alongside traditional coursework, we will carry out a series of structured experiments meant to disrupt our everyday technological habits. We will, for instance, experiment with leaving our phones at home, with avoiding television, and with spending time offline. At the same time, we will cultivate deep attention by regularly reading together, by walking outdoors, and by deliberately making space for boredom and sustained, uninterrupted thought.
