BIOL 309 - Ornithology

Birds are the most diverse group of terrestrial vertebrates, with more than 10,000 species, and have captured the human imagination throughout history. In this course students will learn about the diversity of birds and take an integrative approach to studying their biology. Class topics will include avian evolutionary history, physiology, anatomy, behavior, ecology, and applications to bird conservation. Students will also participate in field and laboratory activities to introduce them to ornithological research and learn bird identification. Field trip(s) required, including some weekend field trips; please bring pants and boots appropriate for all kinds of weather conditions.

Prerequisites: BIOL 200 or BIOL 210/211.
