FYSP 021 - Books of Hours: Pictures and Prayer in Medieval and Renaissance ReligionFC ARHU WINT 4 credits Books of hours, the most popular genre of late medieval books, combine words and images to offer users a private devotional experience tailored to their spiritual ambitions. We will use books of hours to investigate multiple topics, from book making, to art and religion, to the relation of words and images. Examples from Oberlin collections will figure prominently in the class.
