FYSP 012 - Global Sephardi CulturesFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits Sephardi Jews-descendants of Jews from Spain and Portugal who endured forced conversion and expulsion-formed vibrant communities across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Americas. They cultivated distinct cultural practices that were shaped by their new surroundings, living among Muslims and Christians, while maintaining lasting connections to their Iberian origins. This seminar explores the diversity of the Sephardi experience from the Middle Ages to the 21st century through literature, film, and music produced in various contexts in different languages, including Ladino, Hebrew, German, French, and Spanish, alongside scholarship on Jewish, European, Middle Eastern, and American history.
