BIOL 339 - ParasitologyFC NSMA 4 credits The theoretical core of this course is structured as a systematic survey of the biological success and pathogenic mechanisms of eukaryotic parasites. The lecture component prioritizes the taxonomic classification and biology of these organisms, moving beyond simple identification to examine the complex biochemical and physiological adaptations required for survival within a host. By analyzing the life cycles of protozoans, helminths, and arthropods, the theory curriculum explores the mechanics of host-parasite co-evolution, the immunology of chronic infection, and the ecological variables that drive parasitic transmission in both human and veterinary contexts.
Prerequisites: BIOL 223 and 224.
