ECON 241 - Intermediate Financial EconomicsFC SSCI QFR 4 credits This intermediate course grounds students in financial theory and core analytical tools of quantitative finance, risk management, and corporate finance. Topics include stock and bond valuation, portfolio risk, CAPM, market efficiency, capital structure, cost of capital, leverage and taxes, firm valuation, investment decision rules, and corporate transactions. Assignments integrate Excel modeling, Bloomberg terminal work, programming, statistical analysis, and case studies. Students learn to communicate financial analysis through professional reports and presentations. The analytical foundation serves students pursuing advanced coursework, and develops skills valued in finance and finance-adjacent roles across industries. Previously taught as ECON 206.
Prerequisites: ECON 211 and either BUSI 170 or ECON 099.
