GREK 332 - Greek Novels: Daphnis and Chloe

In this course students will read portions of Longus’ celebrated Greek novel, Daphnis and Chloe. We will examine Longus’ stylized romance in the context of Roman-era Greek literature; in particular, we will look at the author’s use of rhetoric, and his deliberate imitation of earlier Greek social and cultural tropes. Students will also read critical scholarship on Longus and on the Greek novel.

Prerequisites: One 200-level GREK course.
