The development of therapeutic drugs is an interdisciplinary effort that can have profound impacts on our health and our society. This course will explore the science of drug development, with a focus on introducing the underlying chemistry and biochemistry concepts, as well as societal implications and unintended consequences such as the opioid crisis. This course is designed for students with little to no prior chemistry background; therefore it is not appropriate for students who have previously completed, or are currently enrolled in, CHEM courses at the 100-level or above.

This course is appropriate for new students.
