REEE 230 - Nabokov

FC ARHU CD
4 credits
The literature of the twentieth century is unimaginable without the works of Vladimir Nabokov. Known as both a Russian and American writer, Nabokov had a significant impact on both literary traditions. Nabokov’s characters and self-portraits- a Russian émigré fleeing the Bolshevik Revolution, a lover of chess, a small college professor, a literary snob – blur the lines between literature and reality, author and narrator. This course focuses on themes of exile, transnationalism, multilingualism, translation, memory, nostalgia, plot structure, and the reader’s role in literature, featuring the novels Speak, Memory, Mary, The Defense, Despair, Lolita, Pnin, and Pale Fire. Readings in English.
