AAST 376 - Shakespeare and the Black Aesthetic

FC ARHU CD
4 credits
This course intersects the work of William Shakespeare with the creative legacy of Black culture. In this class, students read about the history of “Black” culture, along with the global impact of Shakespeare’s extraordinary canon.  Using scenes from plays such as Macbeth and King Lear; students discuss, design and perform their own interpretations of Shakespeare scenes.  The goal is to foster a deeper appreciation of the text and the histories that inform the world of its production.  Ideal for all artists interested in Shakespeare’s relevance as well as the profound influence of Black culture on American theater.

This course is cross-listed with THEA-376
