MUSY 115 - Historical Music in PerformanceFC CNDP 4 credits Drawing on recordings made since the beginning of the twentieth century, this course looks at musical performance from a historical perspective. Organized by case studies representing a variety of genres and periods, we will see how musicians have adapted old pieces to new contexts, including changing instruments, performance venues, recording technologies, and audience tastes. Through careful examination of the available source materials-scores, contemporary accounts, theoretical works-students will broaden their understanding of the performer’s role in bringing old works to life.
This course is cross-listed with HPRF-115
