Designed for first-year students interested in pursuing rigorous study of literature in college, the course will promote mastery in close reading, i.e. describing poetry with care and precision, and writing about it clearly, insightfully, and helpfully. We’ll approach academic writing as an exchange of letters between friends (both real and imaginary), friends seeking to assist one another in making sense of the world. Weekly writing and revision will be of cardinal importance. This course is reserved for first year students only.

This course is appropriate for new students.
