HISP 307 - Introduction to Spanish Linguistics

FC ARHU CD
4 credits
This course provides a basic understanding of the principal areas of linguistics, focusing on the nature and basic linguistic structures of the Spanish language. The course begins with an introduction to the scientific study of language, including the human capacity for communication. This course then explores several core areas of the study of the Spanish language: morphology (word formation), syntax (sentence structure), semantics and pragmatics (the study of meaning and the functional usage of Spanish), and phonetics and phonology (sound structure and patterns). To deepen their understanding of linguistic structures and their development, students will spend part of the semester collectively inventing a new dialect of Spanish. Taught in Spanish.

Prerequisites: HISP 304.
