MATH 359 - Partial Differential Equations

FC NSMA QFR
4 credits
Partial differential equations (PDEs) are widely used to model physical phenomena that change with respect to both space and time. Examples include the diffusion of heat in a metal rod and the propagation of waves along a membrane. This course focuses on the mathematical derivation of classical PDE models (heat equation, wave equation, Laplace’s equation) and analytical tools to solve them. Techniques include energy methods, method of characteristics, separation of variables, Fourier series, integral transforms, and asymptotics.

Prerequisites: MATH 234.
