NSCI 420 - Senior Seminar Addiction: Reinforcement Gone Wrong

Reinforcement, the repeating of behaviors following reward, is a fundamental brain process that is hijacked by drugs of abuse. This seminar will focus on mechanisms of reinforcement and drug addiction with an emphasis on genetic, molecular, and circuit influences. This course will be rooted in discussion, student presentations, and writing, with the aim of improving critical thinking and public speaking skills. Students in this course will learn to write an NIH-style grant and develop a project to address an unknown in the field of addiction science. This course is restricted to senior NSCI majors only.
