NSCI 439 - Senior Seminar Neurogenesis and NeuroregenerationFC NSMA WADV 4 credits The nervous system is an incredibly resilient and plastic system, but does it undergo adult neurogenesis? And to what extent does neuroregeneration occur when the system is damaged? In this seminar-based course, we will explore the interplay of neurogenesis and neuroregeneration in human health and disease. We will start by exploring the mechanisms that promote neurogenesis during development. We will then use these to examine the evidence for and against adult neurogenesis. Finally, we will discuss neuroregeneration and how it may be triggered in humans using principles from other species. The course will emphasize the development of critical analysis and writing skills through an in-depth exploration of recent research. This course is restricted to senior NSCI majors only.
