NSCI 444 - Nature-nurture interactions in neurodevelopmental and neurological disordersFC NSMA WADV 4 credits Research has provided evidence supporting the concept that nature and nurture are vital components in the origin of neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders. Genetic and environmental risk factors are known to interact to increase the risk of developing complex human diseases. This seminar will focus on how gene-environment interactions are established and how these physiological interactions jointly influence cellular, biochemical, cognitive, and behavioral changes in neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders. Students will engage with the primary literature and participate in discussions. In addition, students will have the opportunity to develop a range of professional skills, including scientific writing and public speaking. This course is restricted to senior NSCI majors only.
