CRWR 292 - The Art of Flash Fiction

This course introduces students to the art of flash fiction: complete stories told in a few hundred words or less. Through close reading of published flash, we will examine how compression, voice, and structure work at very small scales. We will discuss the opportunities and constraints of extreme brevity, and how flash fiction challenges conventional ideas of plot, character, and resolution. Students will write original flash pieces and participate in regular workshops focused on revision, risk-taking, and precision.
