DATA 231 - Causal Inference

FC NSMA QFR
4 credits
What is a cause, and how can we determine whether X causes Y? These questions are essential when evaluating the effectiveness of medical interventions, economic policies, and social programs. In this course, we will interrogate what it means for one thing to cause another. We will explore causal frameworks, statistical tools, and study designs for inferring causality, including causal graphs, experimental studies, and quasi-experimental designs. This is a highly applied course: students will work with real datasets, critique published studies, and design their own analyses to practice making and defending causal claims.

Prerequisites: DATA 113.
