DANC 320 - Live Arts in the Archive: Dance and Interdisciplinary Performance Histories

FC ARHU
4 credits
This project-based course explores the histories of dance and interdisciplinary performance at Oberlin College through hands-on archival research. Students work with photographs, programs, videos, correspondence, and other materials to examine how live, embodied arts are documented and remembered. The course traces dance’s development from Physical Education through InterArts, Theater, the Black Arts program, and the BFA in Integrated Arts. Through collaborative and individual projects-including archival research, oral histories, and curatorial work-students activate the archive in a final public-facing project that may include exhibition, digital media, or performance.
