AAST 288H - Africana Dance: Talawa TechniqueHC ARHU CD PRAX 2 credits A codified Africana dance training system that builds the skills needed to move with rhythmic clarity, grounded power, and expressive range. Students learn encultured movement principles and classroom-ready protocols that translate Africana techniques into repeatable drills, phrases, and improvisation tasks. The course develops polyrhythmic coordination, isolations, dynamic weight shifts, stamina, and whole-body conditioning-supporting both extroverted, high-energy dancing and focused skill-building for dancers seeking stronger technique and physical readiness. Emphasis is placed on consistency, musical responsiveness, and embodied decision-making within an Africana aesthetic framework. Open to all levels; no previous dance experience required. This course can be repeated once for credit.
