CRWR 327 - Brevity

In this 300-level fiction workshop, we will read and write work that ranges from very short to extremely short: short-short stories, flash fiction, nano fiction, and even stories approximately one-seventh the length of the sentence you’re reading right now. Writers, editors, and scholars may differ on terms: Does “sudden fiction” mean stories that don’t exceed 1,500 words? Is a “flash” never longer than 750? And did Hemingway actually write that thing about baby shoes? (Long story short: he did not.) But, everyone agrees that the literature of the extremely short is in the middle of a lengthy renaissance.

Prerequisites: Two 200-level CRWR courses.
