HISP 104 - Literature Before the Law: On Atrocity and JusticeFC ARHU CD 4 credits How does literature bear witness to atrocity, and how does it demand justice? This course traces the entangled histories of literature and global justice from the Nuremberg Trials to the present, by reading literature (from fiction to poetry) and visual arts (from film to photography) alongside landmark historical crises in the emergence of human rights and international law from Argentina and Guatemala to Rwanda. Readings include Arendt, Borges, and Sontag. Taught in English.
