HIST 248 - Cities of Sacrifice: Pre-Columbian Histories of MesoamericaFC SSCI CD WINT 4 credits This course will introduce students to the history and culture of Mesoamerica before the arrival of Europeans. Students will learn about the influence of the Olmec and Teotihuacan on subsequent civilizations, the major empires of the Mexica (Aztec) and Maya, and their relationships with neighboring civilizations. Students will gain familiarity with Mesoamerican codices and material culture as a means of preserving histories. They will also become familiar with how historians, anthropologists, and archaeologists have approached the study of pre-columbian societies, cultures, religion, and daily life.
