RELG 237 - Feminist Ethnographies of ReligionFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits This course introduces students to feminist ethnography as a methodological approach in religious studies. Through ethnographic writings by feminist and queer studies scholars who research Hindu, Muslim, Christian, and Black Atlantic religious traditions, we will consider how gender and sexuality shape religious practice, authority, and knowledge in diverse regional and transnational contexts. Class discussion and assignments will ask how ethnography contributes to the study of religion and gender and will engage with key questions for ethnographic researchers and writers, including those related to representation, reflexivity, power, and positionality.
This course is appropriate for new students. This course is cross-listed with GSFS-237
