CRWR 242 - Legends, Fables, & Fairy Tales in Children’s LitFC ARHU CD WINT 4 credits This course focuses on contemporary middle grade literature (for readers ages 8-13) that draws inspiration from magical tales, legends, and myths from around the world. We investigate authors’ craft through close reading and discussion, delving deeply into the ways folkloric influences shape not only a story’s world-building and systems of magic, but elements such as character, structure, and language. Students apply what they’ve learned to their own fiction, completing regular writing assignments and participating in workshop.
