CIME 332 - Fascism and the American Landscape

A spectre is haunting American political discourse: the spectre of Fascism. In this class, we will examine the fraught relationship between the American dream and the Nazi nightmare. Special attention will be paid to sites of memory-like museums, monuments, and memorials-and mass-produced fantasies about authoritarianism. While we will spend time studying what Fascists in the 1920s and 30s saw in America, the class will mostly focus on American remediations of Fascist history.
