EVSS 296 - Science, Technology, and the EnvironmentFC SSCI 4 credits Today, science and technology shape how humans understand and interact with the natural world. Issues like climate change, AI, and public health are framed as technoscientific problems. But what are science and technology, and how did they become so integral to contemporary life and environmental governance? Reading across the interdisciplinary field of science and technology studies (STS), this course will examine tensions between scientific expertise and democracy, technology’s role in environmental management, and how power and inequality are embedded in large technical systems. Through case studies and critical analysis, students will learn how technoscientific authority is constructed, contested, and mobilized.
