FC ARHU CD
4 credits
This course will trace the power and complexity of music and theater by artists of African descent from earliest times in America to the present. The study of foundational musical forms such as blues and spirituals that precede the formal tradition of musical theater will lay the groundwork for examining works from the 19th century through the times of the Harlem Renaissance, Depression-era innovations, the flourishing of mid- 20th century Broadway musicals and the complex forms we see today.

This course is appropriate for new students.
This course is cross-listed with THEA-274
